Some 500 passengers on board a train traveling from Brussels to Amsterdam were evacuated after they were stranded for five hours, local media reported on Wednesday.
The Benelux service train, which departed from Belgium’s capital for the capital city of the Netherlands, was stuck at 7 p.m. local time (1700GMT) Tuesday evening following a technical problem, the Brussels Times news outlet reported.
All passengers were only evacuated after five hours in the Merksem district of Belgium’s Antwerp city, said the report, citing the National Railway Company of Belgium.
“The technical problem initially seemed to have been solved, but then another problem arose,” a company spokesman said.
Some passengers complained about the situation on X, formerly known as Twitter.
