EU’s Dombrovskis Says Would Return for Third Term in Brussels

European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis would be ready to continue for a third term in Brussels should he be backed by the next Latvian prime minister, he said in an interview on Latvian TV.

“If Europe and Latvia provide that possibility, then of course I would be ready to continue to work in those directions,” he said on Tuesday.

Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins’s resignation this month has raised speculation that he may seek a place at the Commission, though he has batted away questions about his future ambitions. The nomination will likely fall to the next government and prime minister.

President Edgars Rinkevics on Aug. 24 appointed Welfare Minister Evika Silina to form a new government.
